Space A transportation is typically available two to three times a month to Anchorage. Space A is used for medical appointments in Anchorage, EML and can be used for personal travel (if Space is available after medical appointments). Space A is provided by our C130s and MSTs.
All Active-Duty members (including their command sponsored dependents) and all retired military members are eligible to fly under the Space A Program. U.S. citizen civilian employees (including dependents) of the Armed Forces who are eligible for Government funded transportation are authorized Environmental Morale Leave (EML) travel.
The upcoming flight schedule can be found in both the Base Kodiak and Air Station Kodiak Plans of the Week. Reach out to your Ombudsman to get on the Plan of the Week email pages.
While the Kodiak Space A does occasionally offer flights to Japan, Hawaii and other Alaska locations (such as Valdez), these flights are very rare from Kodiak. If these flights are offered, there will be information regarding date and sign ups. We do recommend having a back up plan with commercial airlines if you take Space A flights to one of these locations.
JBER (in Anchorage) does offer Space A flights to many more locations. Click the link below to see the JBER Schedule and how to sign up for JBER Space A transportation flights. You can also look up other Space A flights across the country by doing a Google search of the base name + space available or search though the Air Mobility command website at https://www.amc.af.mil/
The Kodiak Space A office is not affiliated with the JBER Space A program and if you have questions regarding JBER Space A scheduling or availability then you will need to reach out to JBER directly.
Please see below for more information about Space A and frequently asked questions.
Sign-ups for Space A flights will begin 7 days prior to the scheduled flight at 0600 in the morning. You will receive confirmation on the flight and, if for some reason, there is not enough room on the flight or if the flight is canceled then you will be notified.
Please remember that those with medical appointments and EML will have first priority. If you have questions about the priority of Space A flights, please contact Space A below.
